Overview
Karl Hochkammer leads the firm's Technology Transactions practice. Karl’s practice is focused on helping clients navigate the complex area where law, technology and data overlap. He directs clients through legal, technical, and transactional challenges arising in investment and M&A transactions, technology development and licensing arrangements, and commercial technology procurement and licensing deals in various industries, including automotive, healthcare, manufacturing, and financial services. His experience includes working with clients with respect to their activities relating to the internet of things, artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, mobility, and smart infrastructure.
Karl holds a Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) credential given by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
- Advises public and private companies regarding complex information technology and business process outsourcing transactions, both domestically and internationally
- Counsels clients in negotiating and restructuring a variety of commercial transactions involving technology and data, including outsourcing, in-sourcing, managing acquisitions and divestitures in outsourcing, and terminating outsourcing arrangements
- Represents clients involved in buying and selling technology goods and services, including software licensing, software development (on- and off-shore), ERP and other system implementations, systems integrations, back-office processing services, ASP and SaaS agreements, technology licensing agreements, hosting and data center agreements, telecommunications and network management agreements, and hardware acquisition and maintenance agreements
- Advises clients in acquisition, development, implementation, integration, licensing, financing, marketing, and sale of technology and intellectual property
- Counsels clients on U.S. and international privacy law and cybersecurity matters, including vendor due diligence and management and compliance programs
- Counsels clients on the collection, licensing, and use of data and information in corporate and commercial transactions
- Counsels clients regarding the use of generative artificial intelligence in software development projects
- Advises clients on the acquisition (licensing/subscription) of artificial intelligence and GAI-enabled software and related use cases
