Khalilah Spencer is a litigation attorney who possesses extensive experience in a wide variety of complex commercial and employment litigation matters in federal and state courts and in arbitration. She represents individuals and public and private companies in a variety of industries, including automotive, financial services, telecommunications, logistics, and real estate. 

  • Possesses significant trial experience as second and third chair in several jury trials and arbitrations involving commercial and employment disputes
  • Manages litigation for numerous corporate clients, including written discovery, depositions, dispositive motion practice, and courtroom advocacy, as well as developing trial and settlement strategies
  • Possesses written and oral advocacy experience before state and federal appellate courts
  • Develops close working relationships with in-house counsel and HR/labor relations personnel while counseling corporate clients on various labor and employment issues, including the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA); wage and hour regulations; disability, race, national origin, and sex discrimination and harassment; and noncompete and other written employment agreements
  • Serves as a member of the firm's Committee on Minority Attorney Initiatives


Representative Matters

  • Represented automotive manufacturer in defense of potential class action by customer arising from alleged product defect
  • Defended several class actions alleging toxic tort claims arising from alleged emissions and contamination
  • Served as a second chair in several Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) arbitrations, representing broker-dealer firms
  • Counseled and obtained judgment in favor of the employer in several ERISA matters
  • Represented City of Detroit mayoral candidate in election campaign and subsequent recount efforts
  • Represented automotive manufacturer in breach of contract claim against NASCAR driver
