Douglas Kelin is a real estate attorney who counsels clients in all aspects of real estate acquisition, sale, development, construction, leasing and financing. He represents developers and operators from a variety of industries, including retail, office, self-storage, industrial, multifamily, manufactured housing, hospitality, and construction. Douglas also has extensive experience in structuring joint ventures and assisting clients with fund formation and capital raising for real estate projects. His practice also focuses on the representation of landlords and tenants with industrial, retail and office leasing, including the negotiation of ground leases and build-to-suit projects. His representations include portfolio acquisitions, multi-property financing, sale lease-back transactions, condominium development, acquisition and sale of NNN lease properties, acquisition and disposition of apartment complexes, and industrial facility leasing.

  • Represented a client in an assemblage of parcels in Detroit, Michigan and obtaining site plan from the City of Detroit for approval for a $20 million mixed-used development
  • Represented a client in the $93 million acquisition of a prominent shopping center in Michigan
  • Represented a client in the $60 million disposition of a portfolio of self-storage facilities across the country
  • Negotiated industrial lease for a new facility on behalf of heavy vehicle and contract automotive manufacturer
  • Represented a client in the $60 million acquisition of a large multifamily complex in Missouri
  • Represented a client in the $59 million disposition of a large multifamily complex in Texas
  • Represented a client in the $40 million acquisition of a retail store in Florida
  • Negotiated and drafted documents relative to the demolition of large factory and the purchase of demolished materials
  • Managed various aspects of the disposition of real estate assets (including oil wells) in an acquisition of an energy company
  • Negotiated and drafted listing and purchase agreements, defeasance documents, and closing documents related to the sale of multiple pharmaceutical properties
  • Represented client in the acquisition of large strip center, including the amendment of the lease for the anchor tenant and the negotiation and revision of the buyer’s loan documents
  • Managed various aspects of the acquisition of multiple neighboring industrial buildings and handled the negotiation and drafting of leases to various industrial tenants over a period of years, including multiple publicly traded companies
