Medicare Payment Principles Related to Change of Ownership Transactions

Kenneth R. Marcus, a Partner in the Honigman’s Health Care Department, recently addressed attendees at the Eastern Michigan Chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association’s 58th Annual Fall Conference. His presentation, entitled “Medicare Payment Principles Related to Change of Ownership Transactions,” focused on the unique, frequently misunderstood Medicare payment, enrollment and certification factors necessary to take into account to avoid adverse payment consequences resulting from change of ownership transactions involving hospitals and other types of Medicare provider entities. The presentation focused on the three themes of planning, identifying and assessing payment impact and coordination and communication between financial and transaction management.
