Overview
Ron Sklar is a lead trial attorney specializing in complex patent and other intellectual property disputes. Ron’s practice covers a range of technologies, products and industries, including medical devices, semiconductors, computer hardware and software, mechanical devices and the automotive industry.
Ron has extensive experience litigating cases in federal district court, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and the International Trade Commission. He has secured numerous victories for his clients by aligning strategies in parallel district court and PTAB proceedings. In addition to his litigation work, Ron counsels clients on all aspects of patent protection, enforcement, defense and licensing.
Before Honigman, Ron was a patent litigator at Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Ron also previously worked in the Florida Marlins front office. He continues to combine his passion for baseball and community involvement, serving as the Assistant Director of Travel Baseball for his local nonprofit community baseball program.

Representative Matters
- Lead counsel for Tier 1 automotive supplier in patent infringement suit involving parallel proceedings in federal district court and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. Achieved a complete victory resulting in the invalidation of all challenged patent claims, the dismissal with prejudice of the corresponding patent infringement suit and a covenant not to sue.
- Lead counsel for medical device manufacturer in trial before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. Achieved a complete victory resulting in the invalidation of all challenged patent claims and the dismissal with prejudice of a corresponding patent infringement lawsuit in federal district court.
- Represented computer server company in patent infringement suit. Obtained pre-answer dismissal and award of attorneys’ fees.
- Represented medical device manufacture in patent infringement suit concerning negative pressure wound therapy devices. Filed petitions for inter partes review of the asserted patents, which resulted in settlement and plaintiff’s dismissal of federal district court lawsuit.
- Lead counsel for a football helmet manufacturer in a patent infringement lawsuit and in two related petitions for inter partes review before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. Cases settled prior to trial.
- Defended a leading navigation mapping and device company in two patent cases in the Eastern District of Texas and the Northern District of Illinois involving in-car navigation systems, location-based technologies, traffic detection and analysis systems, and computer software. Cases settled prior to trial
- Successfully defended a consumer products retailer in the Central District of California in defense of a copyright infringement lawsuit.
- Represented a leading cell phone designer and manufacturer against two competitors before the ITC on technology issues, including user interface and decoding of video and audio; ITC judge found competitors infringed two patents.
- Secured a complete defense judgment in a multi-patent inventorship suit on behalf of a medical devices manufacturer against two prominent orthopedic surgeons who claimed that they should be named as inventors on three patents.
- Represented management solutions corporation in the District of Minnesota on technology issues, including business-to-consumer channel management solutions; case settled prior to trial.
- Successfully defended semiconductor manufacturer in the District of Oregon in patent infringement suit concerning semiconductor production equipment.
