Overview

Jake Rambeau is a trial-tested litigator that guides clients big and small through complex intellectual property and commercial litigation, with a focus on patent infringement, trade-secret misappropriation, and contract disputes. Jake practices in courts and agencies nationwide, including federal district courts, the United States International Trade Commission (USITC), the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Jake has experience across all phases of litigation involving a wide range of technologies, including in the automotive, electronics, wireless communications, software, medical device, industrial equipment, and consumer products industries. He also brings extensive trial experience, having served on nearly a dozen trial teams in federal courts and the ITC and obtained complete wins for plaintiffs and defendants alike.

Before entering the field of law, Jake worked as an electrical engineer in the automotive industry.

Representative Matters

  • Syntel v. Cognizant and TriZetto(S.D.N.Y): Represented Counterclaim-Plaintiff in a trade secret misappropriation, unfair competition and breach-of-contract matter involving healthcare software systems. Won a $855 million jury verdict on behalf of client. *
  • Biedermann Technologies v. K2M(E.D. Va): Represented Plaintiff in patent litigation related to medical implants, resulting in a jury verdict awarding Plaintiff $17 million in damages. *
  • Personalized Media Communications, LLC Litigation(E.D. Tex. and Fed. Cir.): Represented a leading computer and mobile device company in patent litigation relating to digital asset protection and media streaming technologies, resulting in all asserted claims being cancelled, dismissed, or found unenforceable due to prosecution laches. *
  • Bot M8 v. Sony(N.D. Cal. and Fed. Cir.): Represented a large consumer electronics company in a patent litigation related to video-game software, resulting in summary judgment of invalidity of some asserted claims under §101 and early dismissal of other claims for failure to state a claim. *
  • True Spec v. Club Champion(S.D.N.Y; PTAB; and Federal Circuit): Represented Defendant in patent litigation regarding mechanical-connection devices for custom golf club fittings. Defeated Plaintiff’s early motion for preliminary injunction in the district court, followed by successful inter partes review proceeding at the PTAB in which all asserted claims were found unpatentable. *
  • In the Matter of Certain Soft Projectile Launching Devices, Components Thereof, Ammunition, and Products Containing Same, Inv. No. 337-TA-1325 (ITC): Represented Respondent manufacturer in patent infringement investigation involving mechanical consumer devices. Achieved favorable settlement for client. *
  • In the Matter of Certain Vehicle Controls Systems, Vehicles Containing the Same, and Components Thereof, Inv. No. 337-TA-1235 (ITC): Represented Respondent automotive manufacturers in patent infringement investigation involving electrical circuitry and components. Achieved favorable settlement for client. *
  • RTC Industries, Inc. v. Fasteners For Retail, Inc., (N.D. Ill.): Represented Defendant / Counterclaim Plaintiff in patent infringement litigation concerning self-facing systems. Achieved favorable settlement for client. *
  • Greenthread v. Samsung(E.D. Tex.): Represented defendant in litigation concerning semiconductor devices. Achieved favorable settlement for client. *
  • Leading pharmaceutical company(AAA Arbitration 2017): Represented a major pharmaceutical company in a confidential arbitration in which the claimant sought $1.5 billion in damages for breach of contract and misappropriation of trade secrets and confidential information relating to a blockbuster new drug, under an agreement between the parties. Won a complete victory for our client after a multi-day hearing. *
  • In the Matter of Certain Surface Cleaning Devices and Components Thereof, Inv. No. 337-TA-1404 (ITC): Represented Respondent in a Section 337 investigation involving vacuum products.* Achieved favorable settlement for client.
  • Valeo Schalter und Sensoren GmbH v. NVIDIA(N.D. Cal.): Represented Plaintiff in trade-secret litigation involving driving-assistance technology.  Achieved a favorable settlement for client. *
