Honigman Chairman & CEO David Foltyn Assumes Helm at United Way Board

Press Release

The United Way for Southeastern Michigan Board announced the election of a new chair and nine new members. David Foltyn, partner, chairman, and chief executive officer at Honigman LLP, takes the leadership role as board chair following his successful tenure as vice chair. Foltyn succeeds Mark Petroff, president and CEO, OneMagnify, who for two years led the board most notably during United Way’s reorganization and new CEO onboarding. Foltyn’s appointment leading the 102-year organization as board chair began on July 1 and continues through July 2021.

In addition to Foltyn’s leadership at Honigman and as board chair for United Way, he serves on other boards including Downtown Detroit Partnership and the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce, among others. He received a J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School and B.B.A. from the University of Michigan.

“Honigman has a long history of service on the United Way board and I’m honored to serve as board chair for the next two years,” said Foltyn. “The recent organizational improvements pave the way for continued progress especially in the focus areas of education, economic prosperity and health.

“Our new Southeastern Michigan board team will continue the important work -- and measurable progress – made during the past two years.”

Honigman has been a longstanding United Way corporate partner for more than 60 years. Founding Partner Alan E. Schwartz and the late David Page, a longtime partner and active nonprofit leader, both served as United Way for Southeastern Michigan board chairs.

Foltyn will lead the 33-member United Way board in partnership with the following elected officers:

  • Mark Petroff, OneMagnify, immediate past chair
  • Mark Stiers, DTE, vice chair
  • Lynda Rossi, BCBS, secretary
  • Elizabeth Alvarez, Kelly Services, treasurer/finance Committee Chair
