Peter Ruddell Joins Honigman’s Lansing Office as Government Relations and Regulatory Practice Group Co-Chair

Press Release

Honigman announced today that Peter Ruddell has joined the firm as a partner and co-chair of the Government Relations and Regulatory practice group in the firm's Lansing office. He joins the firm from RWC Advocacy, where his practice focused on healthcare, insurance, education and budget issues.

"We are thrilled that Peter has decided to join us," said David Foltyn, Honigman's Chairman and CEO. "He is widely respected among his peers in Michigan's Capitol for his knowledge and experience working with members of the legislature and executive branch on key issues, including the Dr. Ron Davis Smoke-free Air Law.”

Ruddell will co-lead Honigman’s Government Relations and Regulatory practice together with Dennis Muchmore, former Chief of Staff to Governor Rick Snyder. The formidable practice group also includes former U.S. Senator Carl Levin and seasoned state government strategist Joe Garcia.

Another member of the practice is litigator Andrea Hansen, who is experienced in election law, gaming law and appellate work. Hansen was named the 2018 Lansing Gaming Law “Lawyer of the Year” by America’s Best Lawyers. She co-leads Honigman’s Cannabis practice together with Doug Mains, who specializes in government relations and regulatory law.

Ruddell will assume a robust practice focusing on election law, campaign finance and regulatory issues from John Pirich, who is retiring later this year after a 29 year career with Honigman. Pirich was integral in recruiting Ruddell, and will be actively involved in his transition.

Prior to joining RWC advocacy, Ruddell worked for a variety of legislators and on political campaigns, including serving as an aide to Senate Majority Leader Dan DeGrow. In addition to being recognized for his work passing the Dr. Ron Davis Smoke-free Air Law, Ruddell was voted one of Lansing’s top lobbyists by a poll of Capitol insiders conducted by MIRS News.

An active member of the Lansing community, Ruddell volunteers on numerous boards and recently served on the 21st Century Education Commission.

Ruddell holds a J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law as well as a B.A. from Michigan State University’s James Madison College.
