Overview

Honigman's Financial Institutions practice group regularly serves the special needs of multi-bank holding companies, as well as individual community banks. We represent numerous regional and local bank holding companies, state and national banks, thrift holding companies, thrifts, and other financial institutions. In recent years, our Financial Institutions practice has represented banks in 18 states and has performed multimillion-dollar mergers and acquisitions and other transactions with a combined value approaching the $1 billion mark. Our track record has catapulted the firm’s Financial Institutions practice onto the national stage, and our firm has been ranked nationally by number of deals by SNL Financial, a leading source for banking data and news.

Attorneys in our Financial Institutions practice apply a wide range of skills in the service of banks in product expansion and development, negotiations with banking regulatory authorities and defensive administrative enforcement actions, commercial and financial litigation, and compliance with state and federal banking and securities laws. We assist clients in establishing, capitalizing, and restructuring banks and bank holding companies to meet the changing demands of this complicated industry. Our banking attorneys are regularly assisted by members of Honigman’s Tax, Real Estate, and Litigation attorneys, as well as our general corporate lawyers.

Honigman values all of our financial institution clients, no matter their size. We strive to provide prompt and efficient responses to any issue or challenge our clients may have. We take a practical approach to what are, at times, arcane and burdensome regulatory issues. We regularly counsel boards of directors to ensure that they are adequately supported, fully informed, and comfortable when fulfilling their sometimes difficult duties. To enhance our clients' positions, our attorneys maintain constructive relationships with federal and state regulators.
