Michael Baumert is a corporate attorney in the Technology Transactions Practice Group who focuses his practice on technology-driven transactions, cloud computing, intellectual property, and data privacy and cybersecurity. Practicing at the intersection of innovation, technology, law and commerce, Michael is known for his problem-solving approach while navigating clients through a complex net of legal issues and technological requirements.
Michael frequently counsels clients on data privacy issues and the implementation of global data protection laws and regulations, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), among others. He assists clients investigating, responding and mitigating data breaches and other security incidents.
Michael also counsels clients in technology and intellectual property transactions, and has developed a focus on cloud computing, blockchain, machine learning and other artificial intelligence-related concepts. In addition to counseling, his work also includes negotiation of cloud computing agreements, software and technology licenses, as well as intellectual property, privacy and cybersecurity diligence for mergers and acquisitions.
Notably, Michael earned a Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) certification offered by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
Prior to becoming an attorney, Michael worked as a software engineer designing and developing business intelligence, warehousing and customer relationship management software.
