Honigman attorney Kenneth R. Marcus addresses healthcare financial executives at spring conference

Kenneth R. Marcus, a Partner in the Health Care Department at Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP (Honigman), made a presentation entitled "How To Counte-RAC The RAC: What Every Provider Should Know Regarding the Medicare Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) Program” to healthcare financial management professionals at the Western and Great Lakes Chapters of the Healthcare Financial Management Association’s (HFMA) 2010 Spring Conference. The Conference was held in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. His speech detailed RAC readiness steps and the appeals process.

Marcus is a nationally-recognized authority on Medicare and Medicaid payment appeal issues. He has successfully represented numerous hospitals in individual and group appeals before the Provider Reimbursement Review Board and the federal courts. In addition, he frequently advises clients in matters involving the Medicare and Medicaid Anti-fraud and Abuse Provisions, the Stark Act, and the Federal False Claims Act, including representation of clients accused of violating these laws and consultation regarding potential exposure to liability under these laws.

Marcus has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America, from 2008 to 2010; the DBusiness Top Lawyers list for 2010; and in Michigan Super Lawyers from 2007 to 2010. He is the recipient of many awards from the Health Care Financial Management Association, including Gold, Silver and Bronze Certificates, the National Yeager Award, the Outstanding Committee Chair Award and the 2003 Ernest Laetz Award. Marcus is a Board Member of the Eastern Michigan Chapter of HFMA and a recipient of its Founders Medal of Honor.

He earned a J.D., magna cum laude, from Wayne State University Law School, a M.H.S.A. from the University of Michigan and a B.A. from State University of New York at Stoney Brook.
