Position Summary
Honigman’s Securities and Corporate Governance Practice Group is comprised of a diverse group of attorneys who are committed to diversity as a fundamental part of this practice and its continued success. This group is seeking to hire multiple attorneys and attorney groups, including associates with at least four years of experience and more experienced attorneys with at least 8 years of experience representing public company issuers on a full spectrum of matters, including advising on SEC filings, Board/Committee functions, corporate governance, securities offerings, ESG, executive and director compensation and general outside general counsel matters. The public company group’s leanly structured client teams and high-growth practice offer attorneys the opportunity to assume significant responsibility and allow for a high level of partner and client contact. Interested attorneys will have significant opportunities to assist in business development and partner support, as well as training to develop and expand their own networks.
The group welcomes attorneys with significant in-house experience looking to re-enter a law firm, as well as those looking for unique or flexible work arrangements. Honigman offers competitive compensation, with a current starting salary for first-year associates at the firm at $205,000. Experience Requested
Candidates with the following experience are strongly encouraged to apply:
- Significant experience advising issuers;
- Strong and detailed understanding of the federal securities laws and national securities exchange regulations, as well as key principles of public company Boards, governance and executive/director compensation;
- Familiarity with disclosure considerations for a variety of market capitalizations and SEC/national securities exchange classifications;
- Experience with multiple industry sectors; and
- Prior experience working in a national practice from large international/national law firms, strong regional law firms or in-house for a public company.

- J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited institution;

Position Summary/Key Responsibilities
Individuals interested in the Technology Specialist position will have significant opportunities to work alongside highly experienced attorneys in the firm’s Patent and Life Sciences Groups, many of whom have Ph.D. or M.Sc degrees. The hired candidate will also receive extensive training to develop and expand their knowledge of intellectual property law and the day-to-day responsibilities of a Technology Specialist. If the hired candidate is interested in taking the patent agent exam, the firm will provide support in the form of time-off from work to study and sit for the exam, as well as reimbursement for the cost of an exam preparation course. Additionally, the hired candidate may, depending on performance, have an opportunity to receive financial assistance to apply towards pursuit of a law degree.
- Drafting/preparing, filing and prosecuting patent applications before the US Patent and Trademark Office in partnership with Intellectual Property attorneys at the firm;
- Performing prior art searches and analysis and patentability analysis;
- Assisting in patent clearance studies and other patent-related opinion projects;
- Applying advanced concepts in any life sciences field, with particular emphasis and/or expertise in chemistry and small molecules; and
- Engaging in practice development activities to build and maintain client relationships.
Successful Candidates Will Have:
- A keen interest in the life sciences industry with an advanced degree, preferably an M.Sc or a Ph.D in Chemistry or a related field;
- Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and the ability to quickly learn and work with Innovation, PATTSY, Lexis/Nexis, and other research databases;
- Outstanding interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and communication (written and verbal) skills;
- Highly responsive and efficient work habits and strong attention to detail;
- Desire to continuously improve knowledge, skills and abilities and seek guidance and feedback to improve performance and productivity;
