Asia-Pacific

Overview

Honigman’s Asia-Pacific industry group is a diverse, fully integrated practice showcasing the firm’s domestic and international service capabilities.

Honigman’s Asia-Pacific industry group has the international reach needed to serve clients in the increasingly borderless global economy. As Asian businesses and high net worth individuals seek to strategically expand their international holdings and operations to capitalize on opportunities in the United States, they turn to Honigman.

As a full-service law firm with deep experience in the Asian business sector over multiple practice areas, our team provides sophisticated transactional, regulatory, and litigation counsel in these areas: capital raising, commercial litigation, corporate compliance, cross-border investing, intellectual property, international regulations, mergers and acquisitions, and technology transfers.

Global Experience and Capabilities

Our team includes attorneys who speak Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Taiwanese and have lived, traveled, studied, and/or worked in China, Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea. Our familiarity with Asia’s legal and regulatory regimes, and knowledge of the complex cultural and business customs and practices of the countries in the region greatly enhance our ability to communicate and work effectively with our clients.

We have an established network of local counsel in a number of provinces throughout China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, and India (as well as in other Asian countries) who provide regular assistance in business transactions and litigation.

We are true partners and advocates on behalf of the firm’s Asian clients as they do business in the U.S. and around the world.

Intellectual Property

We handle procurement of patents, trademarks, and copyrights, and protection of trade secrets for client portfolios worldwide, including search, registration, enforcement, anti-counterfeiting, litigation, and a range of transactional work involving intellectual property rights, including asserting and defending against intellectual property actions. We offer a wide range of intellectual property services to large, mid-size, and small businesses around the world. We assist foreign clients in extending protection for intellectual property rights developed in their home countries to the U.S. market and assist U.S. clients in securing U.S. and global protection of intellectual property rights.

Mergers and Acquisitions

We are a leader in middle-market business acquisition and disposition, both domestically and internationally. Our corporate attorneys were counsel on more than 310 such transactions that closed in 2018 at an aggregate value of $13.2 billion. Our attorneys have extensive experience handling a wide variety of corporate transactions including joint joint ventures and representing acquirers, sellers, issuers, individuals, financial institutions, and borrowers, among others. We can provide a comprehensive array of services for all phases of a transaction from helping to select the deal team and due diligence through closing. Our clients value our ability to work pragmatically and cost effectively.
