Oakland County is part of the Detroit metropolitan area, though the actual city of Detroit is located in neighboring Wayne County, south of 8 Mile Road. The county is home to 62 colorful cities, villages, and townships. The drive from Oakland County to downtown Detroit ranges from between 20 minutes and 40 minutes depending on the locale.
Each community has its own unique personality and ranges from the avant-garde artists’ enclave of Ferndale that borders Detroit’s northwest neighborhoods to the well-heeled cities of Bloomfield Hills and West Bloomfield.
