Honigman Continues Expansion in Chicago with Addition of Former Chief Labor & Employment Counsel

Press Release

Continuing the significant growth of its Chicago presence and national corporate practice, Honigman LLP has welcomed labor and employment lawyer Jack Vrett as partner.

Vrett focuses on complex labor and employment matters, including collective bargaining, arbitration, strikes, union avoidance, internal investigations, and discrimination, retaliation, and whistleblower claims brought in state and federal courts. He also serves as counsel on labor relations and employment litigation.

“Jack adds significant experience and depth to our expanding team,” said Harris Eisenberg, Managing Partner of the Chicago Office. “His range of knowledge across a broad spectrum of labor and employment issues will help support our clients and their evolving needs.”

Vrett previously served as the Chief Labor & Employment Counsel to the Governor of Illinois, where he oversaw all labor and employment law functions for a workforce of nearly 45,000 full-time unionized workers and 30,000 part-time workers. Before joining Honigman, Vrett represented public and private sector clients in labor and employment matters for a boutique law firm in Illinois, where his practice included labor negotiations, internal investigations, employment discrimination litigation, whistleblower claims, and employee strikes.

Vrett is also a veteran who served on the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG Corps), where he held multiple assignments including Chief of Federal Litigation, Chief of International & Operational Law, and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney. During his service, he also acted as the international and operational law counsel for the 101st Airborne Division, where he advised commanders on the law of war, detention operations, and the rules of engagement. He graduated from Northwestern University and earned his J.D., cum laude, from Marquette University.

Honigman's Labor and Employment department serves both U.S. and foreign clients, providing counsel in compliance matters, audits and existing employment practices. They regularly help to establish operations and best practices at companies across the country and offer counsel on traditional labor issues, including union avoidance and collective bargaining agreements.
