Joseph A. Garcia joins Honigman's Lansing office

February 2, 2009

Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP (Honigman) is pleased to announce that Joseph A. Garcia has joined the firm as a partner in its Lansing, Michigan office. Mr. Garcia comes to Honigman from Karoub Associates, one of the oldest and largest multi-client lobbying firms in Michigan, where he served as a General Managing Partner for the past 15 years. He will provide clients with strategic solutions that involve government – executive branch, legislature, and regulators.

While at Karoub Associates, Mr. Garcia represented clients, including trade associations and corporations, before the Michigan Legislature and departments of state government and assisted in drafting numerous legislative initiatives. In addition, Mr. Garcia counseled clients on liquor control and gaming laws, particularly as they related to horse racing.

“From his years working with the legislature on behalf of Karoub's clients to advance important initiatives, Joe Garcia has amassed unparalleled insights into Michigan state government,” said David Foltyn, Honigman’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “Joe will draw upon those insights in advising our clients on the inner workings of state government and will help the firm and our clients with governmental strategies. He may also serve as a liaison with lobbyists,” continued Foltyn.

Mr. Garcia is a member of several professional and community organizations, including the State Bar of Michigan, the Knights of Columbus and the Wayne State University Alumni Association.

He received a J.D. with distinction from The Thomas M. Cooley Law School and a B.A. in Economics from Wayne State University.
