Job Posting - Trademark Staff Attorney

POSITION SUMMARY

Honigman is a standout among the trademark teams in the country, representing numerous owners of famous and well-known brands.  Honigman is growing and seeks a mid-level to senior Trademark Attorney with at least 4 years of trademark experience. This position may be attractive to someone seeking greater flexibility and a lower billable hour requirement while continuing to work on leading edge trademark issues for household-name clients. The ideal candidate will have experience in conducting clearance searches and drafting clearance opinions.  Experience in U.S. and international trademark prosecution and enforcement is preferred.   Successful candidates will have strong excellent writing skills, strong academic credentials, and attention to detail. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

In addition to the above, this attorney will have the following responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate excellent problem solving skills.
  • Understand and know how to apply ethics rules and knows when to seek guidance on issues of ethics and professionalism.
  • Understand assigning attorney’s needs and client’s goals to ensure efficient responsiveness and communications; communicate regularly and effectively.
  • Assume ownership and manage assignments through to a successful conclusion; understand project budgets; and use technology to accomplish tasks efficiently.
  • Keep matter service teams informed about issues and progress and interact respectfully at all times.
  • Demonstrate high energy and enthusiasm for successfully completing work assignments on time.
  • Strive to continuously improve knowledge, skills and abilities and seek guidance and feedback to improve performance and productivity.
  • Take ownership of and accept responsibility for work performed.
  • Consistently demonstrate reliability and punctuality.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited institution;
  • A minimum of four years of trademark experience within a law firm setting or comparable in-house setting;
  • Licensed Illinois, Michigan or Washington, DC attorney in good standing; remote options are possible, but preference is for candidates willing to be located in any of Honigman’ s current locations;
  • Outstanding interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and communication (written and verbal) skills required;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under significant time constraints;
  • Prior due diligence experience greatly preferred, as is prior litigation discovery experience. Including working with document collections, searches, reviews, and productions;
  • Adaptability and flexibility to implementing new ideas and approaches; and
  • Strong overall technology skills and a willingness to learn and apply new practice technologies or applications as they become commercially available.

Job Posting – Interdepartmental Staff Attorney

POSITION SUMMARY

Interdepartmental Staff Attorneys gain experience in an array of practice areas through assignments from across the Firm’s six departments. A significant amount of IDA assignments come from the Corporate areas of Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity as well as Litigation e-discovery, but IDA projects are also assigned by the Intellectual Property, Real Estate, Labor & Employment, and Insurance Departments. Beyond traditional legal work, IDAs also participate as key members of the Firm’s legal operational efforts in adopting new practice technologies, legal project management functions, product/service development, outside counsel guidelines and other business-of-law issues, and more.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform high quality research and writing.
  • Effectively communicate at all levels of the Firm.
  • Demonstrate excellent problem solving skills.
  • Keep work organized in a logical manner; manage time and resources effectively; consistently track and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of concepts, issues, and resources in relevant practice areas, including but not limited to:
  • Handling M&A due diligence work, including knowledge of and proficiency with KIRA software;
  • Reviewing and negotiating standard commercial contracts and non-disclosure agreements;
  • Performing substantive document review using all available technology (namely Relativity), including reviewing documents for responsiveness, confidentiality, issues, and privilege, as well as assisting with corresponding privilege log;
  • Retrieving and organizing documents and assist with deposition preparation, as required; and
  • Drafting and reviewing memos and other summarizing documents for dissemination to the broad matter team regarding a variety of practice areas.
  • Understand and know how to apply ethics rules and knows when to seek guidance on issues of ethics and professionalism.
