Bill Sargent is a labor and employment attorney who has extensive experience representing clients in a wide range of matters involving civil rights, wrongful discharge, wage and hour, and other areas of employment and labor law. Serving as the Chair of the Labor and Employment department between 2001 and 2017, his experience ranges from single plaintiff litigation to collective actions.

  • Defends cases before various state courts, including the Michigan Court of Appeals, the Michigan Supreme Court, the United States District Courts in Michigan and elsewhere, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, as well as various state and federal agencies
  • Counsels employers on legal compliance issues related to wage and hour compliance, employee recruitment, training, discipline, retention and termination, medical leaves (including the Family and Medical Leave Act [FMLA]), military leave, workforce restructuring, plant closing and job eliminations, fair housing, collective bargaining, organizational activities, workplace violence, workplace harassment, trade secrets and restrictive covenants, partnership disputes, and executive employment matters
  • Represents employers in a broad range of industries, including automotive suppliers, financial services companies, health care providers, retail businesses, charitable and non-profit organizations, marketing and public relations concerns, restaurant chains, temporary and contract employment providers, trucking and transportation companies, and technology concerns
