Tara Mahoney possesses experience in counseling a wide range of employers on complex employment issues, including workplace harassment and discrimination; employment and noncompetition agreements; workplace policies, handbooks, and procedures; leave laws; and terminations and layoffs. Ms. Mahoney also litigates these employment matters on behalf of employers and managers in federal and state courts and before federal and state administrative agencies.

  • Defends employment discrimination, retaliation, and harassment cases brought under federal and state laws, including Title VII, the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, and the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
  • Assists employers in responding to administrative proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, and the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency 
  • Represents employers in noncompete cases in various states, including Michigan, Wisconsin, California, Florida, and New York 
  • Counsels employers on preventative training and human resources practices, employment policies and procedures, handbooks, contracts, and applications
  • Serves the firm as Recruiting Partner and as vice chair of the Sponsorship Committee of the Committee on Women Attorney Initiatives


  • Defended worldwide chemical company in age discrimination, breach of contract, and ERISA case resulting in a jury finding no cause of action, which was affirmed by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit
  • Defended national pharmaceutical company against discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan resulting in summary judgment being granted for the employer
  • Represented charter school management company in whistle-blower protection act claim brought in Wayne County Circuit Court
  • Represented nationwide online home lender and retail home mortgage lender in numerous EEOC administrative proceedings
  • Represented a broker-dealer and registered representatives in Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) proceeding regarding noncompetition, non-solicitation, and raiding claims
  • Trained Ann Arbor-based technology company managers and executives regarding harassment and other employment hot topics
