Carl Herstein is a real estate attorney who has experience in the areas of finance, tax appeals, interest/usury, and equine law. He is well known for his writings on Michigan real property law and his authoritative work on Michigan usury law, which have been cited by the courts and utilized by practitioners. He has also worked extensively on the structure and documentation needed to settle complex real estate tax appeals. As the firm’s Chief Value Partner, he works extensively on legal project management, alternative fee structures, and matters relating to the cost-efficient practice of law.

  • Represented several Fortune 500 companies in the structuring and documentation of the settlement of more than a dozen multi-million dollar tax appeals
  • Provided expert testimony in the reasonableness of legal fees in proceedings for fee reimbursement
  • Represented developers in connection with several of the most important public/private partnerships in the City of Detroit, including the Riverfront Tower Apartments, Trappers Alley, the Detroit-Fairlane Holiday Inn Hotel, and the St. John Hospital and Medical Center financing
