Principal attorney involved in the firm’s extensive practice relating to alternative risk financing vehicles, including the formation and representation of captive insurance companies, and has been involved in alternative risk financing since 1974.
Served as founding chair of the firm’s Insurance Department, specializing in alternative risk financing and captive insurance.
Has an extensive practice as a health lawyer, and served as founding chair of the firm’s Health Care Department.
Served as Chairman of the Firm (1991-1998) and as its Chief Executive (1993-1998).
Advises on legal aspects of feasibility studies and structural models for alternative risk programs.
Organizes and represents alternative risk financing arrangements, including captive insurance companies, self-insurance programs, and risk retention groups.
Counsels owners/sponsors of alternative risk financing arrangements on legal, regulatory and strategic issues.
Advises on insurance program structure, including excess coverage and reinsurance arrangements.
Extensive experience with captive insurance companies with multiple owners.
Experience with companies in the leading captive insurance domiciles.
Provides reviews and interpretations of insurance policies and analyses of questions of coverage.
Familiar with areas of health care law relevant to regulatory compliance of health care captive insurance companies and their owners, including Medicare Anti-kickback law, Stark law, and tax-exempt issues such as private inurement.
