Senate Votes Down Services Tax

March 22, 2007
March 22, 2007.  The Senate rejected the Governor's proposed 2% excise tax on services on a 16-22 vote.  Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop (R-Rochester) said Thursday that the service tax has been "killed for good." The Senate then began implementing a budget shortfall fix that did not call for increasing taxes.  An administration spokesperson said the eventual solution for the budget would involve increased revenues and structural reforms.
