Honigman partner June Summers Haas named to All-Decade State Tax Team by Tax Magazine
Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP (Honigman) is pleased to announce that June Summers Haas, a Partner in the firm’s Tax Appeals Department, was named by State Tax Notes magazine to its “All-Decade State Tax Team.” The “Team” was selected from tax experts around the country by the magazine’s Contributing Editor David Brunori as the people “who were the most influential in the state and local tax world over the past 10 years.” Of the fourteen professionals chosen, Haas is one of two women and one of four practicing attorneys on the list.
In his article, Brunori states, “Haas is widely regarded as one of the best state tax lawyers in the country – a reputation she has held for most of this decade. She served as director of the Multistate Tax Commission nexus program. She was commissioner of revenue in Michigan from 1999 to 2002. Since that time, she has been involved in everything from the Hartman Forum to electronic commerce. She is one of the most influential practitioners of the decade.”
Haas litigates state tax cases, works to resolve tax disputes, represents clients in audits and advises clients on a nationwide basis regarding multistate and Michigan tax strategies. Her practice also focuses on managing state income, value-added, sales and use tax issues for business entities. In addition, she is a nationally-recognized authority on issues relating to state jurisdiction to tax, also known as nexus. Haas has been listed in Michigan Super Lawyers from 2007 to 2009 (and as one of their top 50 women in 2007), Best Lawyers in America in 2006 and 2007 and she is AV® Preeminent™ rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
Haas earned a J.D. from the University of Virginia, where she also served as the Executive Editor of the Virginia Tax Review. She received a B.S., with honors, from George Mason University.
