Honigman's Carl W. Herstein elected chair of University Musical Society's Board of Directors

Carl W. Herstein, a partner in the Real Estate Department of Detroit-based business law firm Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP (Honigman), has been elected Chair of the University Musical Society's Board of Directors for a one year term.  

Herstein has served as Vice Chair of the UMS Board since 2005 and has served on and chaired various UMS committees since 2003.  The University Musical Society, now celebrating its 129th season, is an internationally acclaimed performing arts presenter renowned for its presentations in music, theatre and dance, as well as award winning work in creation and presentation.  

Herstein earned his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Michigan, with High Distinction and Highest Honors in Political Science.  He earned his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School where he was a teaching assistant and served on the Law Journal.  He has extensive experience in real estate, tax appeals, and horse racing.  Herstein is also a recognized authority on usury law and has published the leading article in the state on the subject.  Herstein currently resides in Ann Arbor, Mich.
