Honigman celebrates its office opening in Downtown Kalamazoo

Press Release

Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP (Honigman) today celebrated the opening of its new office in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The offices are located at 350 East Michigan Avenue in the historic Columbia Plaza building on its third floor. Honigman’s office spans approximately 10,000 square feet. Since opening its Kalamazoo office in October 2008 with seven attorneys, five professional staff members and two administrative staff members, it has expanded by more than 90 percent to 11 attorneys, seven professional and nine administrative staff members.

Honigman’s Kalamazoo attorneys concentrate their practices on life sciences, intellectual property and technology, venture capital, corporate law, litigation, community banking, and labor and employment.

“We are extremely pleased to celebrate the opening of our office in downtown Kalamazoo with this special ribbon cutting ceremony,” said Phillip D. Torrence, Honigman’s Kalamazoo Office Managing Partner and Chair of the firm’s Community Banking Practice Group. “It is a beautiful building and our offices are well-apportioned to meet our current needs, as well as support the firm’s growth in this region.”

“We are delighted to welcome Honigman to Columbia Plaza and were pleased to participate in their ribbon cutting ceremony,” said Mac Waldorf, Managing Partner, Columbia 12, LLC. “We have a great working relationship and are pleased to be a part of their growth in the community.”

The Columbia Plaza building is owned by Columbia 12, LLC and is home to a number of the region’s leading life science and medical device companies, including the Apjohn Group, LLC, which is one of its major tenants. Built in the late 1890s, it was originally the Columbia Hotel, which over the years prospered and grew with several wing additions. In 1985, the hotel underwent three years of extensive renovations before it re-opened as an office building in 1988.
