Honigman attorneys present at Air & Waste Management Association's Annual International Conference

Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP (Honigman) is pleased to announce that Richard A. Barr, S. Lee Johnson, Steven C. Nadeau, Joseph M. Polito and Megan Conlon McCulloch will present papers at the Air & Waste Management Association’s (A&WMA) 102nd Annual Conference & Exhibition being held at Cobo Center, Detroit, Michigan, June 16 to 19, 2009. The Honigman attorneys are all members of the firm’s Environmental Law Department, chaired by Nadeau. The conference, which will be attended by thousands of environmental professionals, focuses on a wide variety of air and waste related environmental topics, including global climate change, greenhouse gases, regional haze, mercury, sustainability and environmental compliance. This year’s conference theme is “Driving Environmental Progress.”

Barr will participate in a panel entitled “Encouraging Development in a Time of Economic Uncertainty – A Michigan Perspective” on June 16 at 4 p.m., room 02-42. He concentrates his practice on environmental, real estate and business law and is a leading authority in the redevelopment of contaminated sites by utilizing federal, state and local incentives to facilitate Brownfield redevelopment. Barr and McCulloch will present a paper on June 16 at 2 p.m., room 02-42, entitled “Making Brownfield Redevelopment Work During Tough Economic Times: Leveraging Michigan Brownfield Incentives With Other Development Incentives.”

McCulloch’s legal experience includes counseling clients on federal and state Superfund proceedings, contaminated sediment management, environmental enforcement actions, compliance issues and cleanups, as well as leveraging incentives to facilitate Brownfield redevelopment. She also will participate in a presentation with Nadeau titled “Great Lakes and National Contaminated Sediment Management Update” on June 17 at 3:20 p.m., room 02-42.

Nadeau has extensive experience in federal and state Superfund proceedings, contaminated sediment management, remediation, enforcement, regulatory compliance, Brownfield redevelopment, alternative dispute proceedings, cost recovery litigation and lender liability.

Johnson, who is Chair of the A&WMA East Michigan Chapter, is delivering two presentations: “Emissions Offsets for PM-2.5 in Non-Attainment New Source Review” on June 16 at 1:40 p.m., room M3-31 and “Revisions to the EPA’s New Source Review Program under the New Administration” on June 16 at 2 p.m., room M3-31. Johnson’s experience includes representing businesses and individuals in administrative proceedings with federal and state regulatory agencies, environmental compliance and the environmental aspects of commercial transactions. He also specializes in air pollution regulation and environmental law litigation.

Johnson will join Polito for a presentation on June 17 at 4:20 p.m., room 02-43 on “The Future for U.S./Canada Transboundary Pollution Disputes.” Polito, past Chair of Honigman’s Environmental Law Department, focuses his national practice on multiple areas of environmental law ranging from land use to solid and hazardous waste matters. He counsels business clients on environmental regulatory requirements and liabilities, and represents them in hearings, administrative adjudications and trials.
