July 1, 2005

Carl W. Herstein, a partner in the Real Estate Department of Honigman, was recently elected to a one-year term as Vice Chairman of the board of the University Musical Society.

Founded in 1879, the University Musical Society (UMS) is one of the oldest performing arts presenters in the country.  It serves diverse audiences through multi-disciplinary performing arts programs in presentation, creation, and education.  UMS hosts approximately 75 performances of music, dance, and theater and 150 free educational activities each season. UMS also commissions new work, sponsors artist residencies, and organizes collaborative projects with local, national, and international partners. While proudly affiliated with the University of Michigan and housed on the U-M campus, UMS is a separate not-for-profit organization that supports itself from ticket sales, grants, contributions, and endowment income.

Herstein earned his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1976, and a B.A. with high distinction and highest honors in political science from the University of Michigan in 1973.

Herstein currently resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
