Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP Honored by Habitat For Humanity of Metropolitan Detroit

November 17, 2004

Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP has been recognized by Habitat for Humanity Detroit as its Community Partner of the Year for 2004.  The award was presented to Carl Herstein of Honigman by Habitat for Humanity Detroit's Board Chairman John E. Mogk, professor of law at Wayne State University, at the organization's Annual Awards Dinner on November 17 at the Atheneum Hotel.

"Habitat is grateful to the attorneys of Honigman for the pro bono legal services they have contributed to our organization in recent years," said Mogk. "Their donated legal counsel is invaluable to us as we continue to grow our organization and produce affordable housing for Detroit families in need."

Honigman has donated more than $250,000 worth of free legal service to Habitat for Humanity Detroit over the past five years.  Attorneys have assisted with a variety of real property matters, including financing transactions to help Habitat fund more home building, handling legal issues related to property donation and addressing mortgage delinquencies.

"Honigman is privileged to be assisting such an important organization as Habitat for Humanity Detroit," said Carl Herstein, a partner in the Real Estate department.   Accepting the award on behalf of the firm, Herstein continued, "Pro bono efforts are an important part of our commitment to the Detroit community."
