Firm Receives Most Practice Group ‘Band 1’ Rankings in Michigan

Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP has four practice groups with the highest ranking of Band 1 in the 2017 edition of Chambers USA, which is more than any other law firm in Michigan.

The prestigious directory of leading U.S. business law firms and lawyers bestowed the highest ranking on the Intellectual Property, Corporate/M&A, Real Estate and Litigation: General Commercial practices. Notably, Honigman is the only law firm in Michigan to garner the top ranking of Band 1 for its IP practice.

Chambers USA reported the Honigman IP team is a “[m]arket-leading practice offering the full range of copyright, patent and trademark services. Particular expertise regarding IP issues in the life sciences and hi-tech sectors. Acts for an impressive list of clients, including numerous household-name brands.”

Three attorneys at the forefront of the IP practice group’s rise to the top earned individual rankings for the first time, including J. Michael Huget, Anessa Owen Kramer and Jonathan P. O’Brien.

Overall, 27 Honigman attorneys were recognized, with 10 attorneys garnering Band 1 or special rankings.

Chambers USA describes Honigman’s Band 1 Corporate/M&A practice as a “[s]tandout bench of corporate attorneys handling high-value sales and acquisitions for a range of prominent domestic companies. Regularly negotiates public offerings and bond deals, with particularly significant experience acting for clients in the automotive, banking and construction industries.”

According to Chambers USA, Honigman’s Band 1 Real Estate practice is a “[s]tellar regional real estate practice, known for the depth of its expertise across the full spectrum of real estate matters, including complex development financings for commercial and residential properties. Acts for clients in the environmental, hospitality, retail and affordable housing sectors, among others. Fields highly experienced attorneys in property-related environmental issues and REITs.”

Chambers USA also noted that Honigman’s Band 1 Litigation: General Commercial practice is an “[o]utstanding criminal and civil litigation practice with broad-ranging expertise across several significant industries, including automotive, consumer products and healthcare. The team has a broad range of expertise, acting for clients on class actions, IP, private equity and securities litigation, both in the first instance and at the appellate level.”

In addition to the four Band 1 practices, Chambers USA also recognized Honigman’s Banking & Finance and Labor & Employment practices in Band 3 for Michigan. The Litigation: General Commercial practice was recognized in Band 4 in Illinois.
