Honigman Launches Investment Incentives and Tax Savings Practice Group
February 8, 2006Honigman announces the formation of its new Investment Incentives and Tax Savings Group, an interdisciplinary practice group designed to assist clients in accessing and using government-sponsored business incentive programs. Alan S. Schwartz, Chief Executive Officer of Honigman said, "It has become increasingly more challenging for our clients to navigate the waters of business incentive programs. This group's formation is the result of clients requesting guidance to make the best use of these business programs." Honigman's Investment Incentives and Tax Savings Group incorporates attorneys from the Corporate, Environmental, Real Estate, Real Estate Tax Appeals, and Tax departments. These attorneys collaborate to assist clients in their dealings with local, state and federal programs that range from redevelopment incentives to business location/investment, manufacturing and high tech, and housing related incentives, among others. "We have assembled a top-notch team that can handle any kind of incentive program at all levels of government," said Mark Hilpert, Tax and Economic Incentive Manager at Honigman, who formerly served more than eight years as the Chairman of Michigan's State Tax Commission. "Whether a client is looking for the most economically viable place to locate its headquarters, exploring options to redevelop land, or simply establishing a new business, we can help them make the most out of the government's incentive programs." Competition among states for economic development projects continues to rise, and there is a growing number of government-sponsored programs intended to encourage businesses to locate or expand in particular regions. The state of Michigan itself has implemented scores of business incentive programs in an effort to attract companies from around the world to do business in the state. Founded in 1948, Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP is based in Detroit with offices in Lansing and Oakland County. The law firm represents more than 15,000 clients regionally, nationally and internationally.
