Seasoned real estate partner joins Honigman in Chicago

Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP continues to expand its presence in Chicago with the addition of a highly experienced and well-regarded real estate partner. Janet H. Winningham brings more than 25 years of experience to Honigman. The full-service business law firm located in the Midwest, now has nearly 300 attorneys and is committed to expand, particularly in Chicago.

Winningham represents owners, developers and lenders in highly complex acquisitions, dispositions, construction, multi-phased and multi-property projects. She also represents lenders and borrowers in real estate financings, including construction loans, permanent loans and mezzanine loans. She comes to Honigman form Ginsberg Jacobs, LLC in Chicago. Winningham also gained significant experience as a partner at Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP and Jenner & Block LLP; as a senior attorney at McDonald’s Corporation; and as senior counsel for the Illinois Housing Development Authority.

She is admitted to the bar in Illinois and has been named one of the top 50 women in real estate- related law by Leading Lawyers Network and as an Illinois Super Lawyer. Winningham earned a J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and a B.A., with distinction, from DePauw University.

In 2014, Honigman’s Real Estate Department represented clients in approximately 2,100 transactions at a combined value of approximately $11.7 billion. The number of transactions increased an impressive 34 percent from the 1,550 transactions for 2013. The median transaction value for 2014 was $5.8 million with the largest transaction reaching $1.4 billion. Honigman’s real estate practice continues to grow along with the firm’s reputation and client base.
