Honigman further expands Chicago office with two new partners

Press Release

Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP is continuing to expand its Chicago presence with the addition of two high-profile partners in its litigation and tax departments. Former Winston & Strawn partner David Koropp joins Honigman’s stellar team of litigators, including those from the high-end litigation boutique of Schopf & Weiss, acquired by Honigman in June. Ilan Napchan joins the firm’s tax practice from Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Honigman now has more than 300 legal professionals in the Midwest and a growing national client base served by prominent practices in intellectual property, private equity, corporate and securities, real estate, and litigation, among others.

“Honigman is committed to expanding its footprint in Chicago and we are very pleased to be able to further strengthen our presence in the region with the addition of David and Ilan,” said David Foltyn, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Honigman. “Our ability to attract talent of the caliber of these two partners speaks to Honigman’s excellent reputation and market position in the Midwest.”

Trial lawyer Koropp will add increased weight to Honigman’s litigation department. Koropp has successfully represented clients in some of their most complex and significant commercial, class action, antitrust, accounting/auditor liability, real estate and patent litigation matters for 26 years, and has been recognized as one of Illinois’ “Super Lawyers” in the areas of business litigation for each of the last ten years.

Koropp’s trial experience includes jury trials, bench trials, arbitrations, and contested evidentiary hearings ranging from bet-the-company cases for Fortune 100 clients to more modest disputes involving privately held businesses and wealthy individuals.

Koropp is a member of the Lawyer’s Advisory Committee of the Innocence Project. He earned a J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law and received a B.A. from the University of Illinois.

Napchan will serve as a key player in corporate merger and acquisition deals, giving Honigman greater versatility in this area. His practice will focus on the tax aspects of complex domestic and cross-border transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, joint ventures and recapitalizations. Before attending law school, Napchan worked at both Bank of America and Goldman Sachs.  He received a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law and a B.S., cum laude, in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University.

Koropp and Napchan are among close to 20 laterals who have joined Honigman from other major law firms during the past 18 months as the firm continues its aggressive growth strategy.
