Honigman boasts largest new team at annual ‘Komen Detroit Race for the Cure'

Detroit-based business law firm Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP (Honigman) announced today that its “Honigman’s Heroes” walk team raised $13,900 in pledged donations and won “Rookie of the Year” for having the largest new team participating in the 2008 Susan G. Komen Detroit Race For The Cure.

More than 140 attorneys, staff and their families participated in the annual event that raises both awareness and money for breast cancer research. The 5K run/fitness walk through the streets of downtown Detroit, held this past May 31, 2008, drew an estimated crowd of 30,000 and raised more than $2 million, according to media reports.

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, held locally in conjunction with the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, is one of the world’s largest grassroots networks of breast cancer survivors and activists. Organizers said that since the race began in 1982 the Komen organization has raised nearly $1 billion for research and continuing education.
