Heidi M. Berven joins Honigman’s Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Group

Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP (Honigman) is pleased to announce that Heidi M. Berven has joined the firm as a Partner in its Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Group, which is part of Honigman’s Corporate and Securities Department, and will work in its Kalamazoo office. Berven concentrates her practice on client counseling and project support for early stage drug discovery through drug development, patent due diligence (in-licensing and out-licensing) and patent preparation and prosecution (domestic and international chemical and pharmaceutical arts).

Berven received a J.D. from the University of Iowa with distinction and was a member of the Iowa Law Review, participated in the Sol Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition in Trademark Law and received the West Corpus Juris Secundum Award for Scholastic Excellence in first-year Contacts Law. In addition, she received a Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University in organic chemistry, a Master of Science from Indiana University in organic chemistry and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Minnesota in chemistry. Her Bar memberships include the states of Idaho and Minnesota, as well as the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Berven’s experience has been earned primarily as in-house counsel for several international pharmaceutical companies, including EPIX Pharmaceuticals, Praecis Pharmaceuticals, AstraZeneca and Pfizer, Inc., where she managed patent portfolios, created patent filing strategies and oversaw patent preparation and prosecution. At Praecis, she assisted in the negotiations resulting in its sale to GlaxoSmithKline. She also has authored articles for chemistry and legal publications related to chemical studies and the practice of patent law.

Berven comes to Honigman from Concert Pharmaceuticals in Lexington, Massachusetts.
