REBUILDING DETROIT RETAIL

NASCAR owner Felix Sabates in a January 28, 2010 article in the Charlotte Observer was quoted as saying "there's nobody left in Detroit other than the police and the unemployed" in arguing to eliminate NASCAR racing from the Michigan International Speedway. Our guest speakers, Matt Cullen, President and Chief Financial Officer of Rock Enterprises (formerly General Manager of Economic Development and Enterprise Services for General Motors), RJ King, Editor of D Business and David Blaszkiewcz, President of Detroit Investment Fund have a different story to tell. Our guest speakers will highlight successful Detroit developments, including the Detroit riverfront area, the entertainment and stadium district as well as the Midtown and cultural center area and share some insights on future developments, projects and other infrastructure improvements, which will provide the foundations for reviving retail in Detroit. Mr. Cullen, Mr. King and Mr. Blaszkiewcz will also provide their perspective on the challenges associated with bringing retail to Detroit and the metro area, and will offer practical solutions to overcome these challenges. Finally, our speakers will update us on what their companies are doing to promote the revitalization of Detroit and what the members of "Detroit's Next Generation" can do to help in this process. Question & Answer session as well as networking will follow the program. This ICSC educational, networking and mentoring program is specifically designed for retail real estate professionals who are seeking to develop their careers and build relationships in the shopping center industry. The Next Generation program offers retail real estate professionals the unique opportunity to meet and interact with their peers, share experiences, exchange ideas and advice in an interactive yet relaxed environment. Next Generation is also open to seasoned professionals who wish to give back to the industry. Members and non-members are welcome.
