Brian Arnold is a litigator with more than 10 years of experience advising clients on intellectual property-related matters. He focuses his practice on patent litigation, appeals, and counseling. Brian's technology experience includes work in the fields of automotive systems technology, software, computer memory devices, microprocessors, smartphones and tablet devices, cellular networking, geographical coordinate systems, mechanical devices, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and stem cell technology. Prior to law school, he worked as a software developer for more than eight years.

  • Represents clients through the many facets of patent litigation, including electronic discovery, expert discovery, motion practice, preliminary injunctions and temporary restraining orders, Markman briefing and hearings, summary judgment, post-trial motions, claim construction, focus studies, and trial
  • Advises clients in numerous industries, including automotive manufacturers, automotive system suppliers, smartphone/tablet manufacturers, cellular service providers, online search providers, online retail businesses, and medical device manufacturers
  • Represents clients in Section 337 investigations before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) as well as inter partes review proceedings
  • Litigates cases before federal courts throughout the country, including the District of Delaware, Northern District of California, Southern District of California, Eastern District of Michigan, Eastern District of Texas, Northern District of Texas, Northern District of Illinois, and the District of Maryland


  • Served as an extern for Judge Martin C. Ashman in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois
  • Worked for a Chicago-based law firm as a law clerk and technical advisor on patent prosecution and litigation matters while in law school
