Dr. Fernando Alberdi counsels public, private companies, and non-profit institutions such as hospitals, research institutions, and universities concerning the full spectrum of patent issues in the life sciences.

His practice involves designing and creating strategic solutions, leveraging complex intellectual property protection strategies for maximizing monetization and protection of clients’ intellectual property assets. Fernando assists clients in business-focused due diligence related to private and public financial transactions, licensing, and partnering opportunities.

With a doctorate degree and background in immunology and inflammation research, Fernando has experience in a broad range of technical areas, particularly within the life sciences, including immunology and immunotherapy, biologics/biosimilars, molecular biology including genomics, RNA and DNA interference technologies, molecular diagnostics, CRISPR, TALEN and Zinc Finger gene editing technologies, nucleic acid and peptide/protein therapeutics and diagnostics, recombinant protein expression, viral vectors, genetics, natural products, vaccines, drug delivery, and small molecule pharmaceuticals.

Fernando also advises companies in regard to third party intellectual property rights, drafting and prosecuting patents in a variety of technical areas, and assisting clients in a wide range of intellectual property matters. In particular, Fernando focuses on assessing patent landscapes, analyzing third-party patents, conducting periodic patent watches on competitor activity, and preparing freedom to operate, patentability, and invalidity opinions.
